WILTSHIRE WALKING FOOTBALL LEAGUE

After months of planning to cover detailed COVID protocols, Wiltshire FA’s Walking Football League finally kicked off on Sunday 18 October. Unfortunately, soon after it began the competition had to pause due to the second national UK lockdown, with the teams completing just one match day. Now, with restrictions eased, the league is keen to restart with Matchday-2 planned for early next year.

Arranged in two age-based leagues, nine over-50s and six over-60s, teams from Calne, Chippenham, Corsham, Devizes, Highworth, Melksham, Salisbury, Swindon and Trowbridge have competed in the first of five matchdays to decide who will be crowned County Walking Football Champions in April 2021.

At the conclusion of Matchday-1, which took place in October, Amesbury Whites holds the top spot in the over-50s division while Highworth has a narrow lead in the over-60s.

Speaking after the successful conclusion of Matchday-1, League Chairman Terry McCosh commented: “This was a fantastic advertisement for walking football in Wiltshire as we become the latest county-affiliated league providing competitive matches for its more senior players”.

Marchday-2 is planned for 24 January with further dates arranged in February, March and finally April where the league champions will be crowned.
